Wholesale for Stuttgart: stock for kiosks, fuel stations and automated stores

How long may shops open in Stuttgart?

According to IHK Rhein-Neckar, outlets in Baden-Württemberg may open around the clock on working days; on 24 December trading stops at 2 pm when that is a working day. Kiosks count as retail outlets if they sell continuously to anyone from a fixed location.

On Sundays and public holidays shops must close. Section 9 of the shop opening act makes exceptions for certain product groups, such as newspapers and magazines for up to six hours and baked goods for up to three. The IHK lists no separate Sunday rule for kiosks of the kind Hesse has. If you trade in sweets and drinks, treat Sunday as a closed day unless another exception applies.

What does the new law change for automated stores?

The amending act of 10 February 2026 appeared in Gesetzblatt no. 23 of 27 February 2026 and has applied since 28 February. Fully automated outlets of up to 150 m² that sell only everyday goods and run without sales staff on Sundays and holidays may now open on those days. The authority may set duration and timing by ordinance, with a minimum of eight consecutive hours.

Plan for three points in advance. Notify Sunday trading at least six weeks ahead and prove the sales area. The store stays shut on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Whit Sunday and Christmas Day. And on Sundays and holidays the only permitted restocking is fresh baked goods; employees may not fill, service or clean the store on those days.

For your purchasing, that means shelves must be full enough on Saturday to last until Monday. With 24–48 hours for shipping, orders are best placed at the start of the week. Take questions about your own case to the city or your adviser; this is not legal advice (as of November 2026).

Which products suit an automated store?

Items that fit simple shelf compartments are practical: Takis Fuego, Samyang Buldak Creamy Carbonara, Toppie Grape Gummy and drinks such as Red Bull Iced Vanilla Berry or AMIGO Ice Tea Peach. Format ideas are on vending kiosk wholesale.

Take care with toys: fully automated stores may sell only goods for daily use and consumption (Waren des täglichen Ge- und Verbrauchs), and that applies on working days too. According to the explanatory memorandum to the act (Drs. 17/10196) these are food and treats, household products and hygiene items; other products may not be offered. Check doubtful cases with the authority first.

Who oversees food and toys in Stuttgart?

The responsible unit is the food inspection, consumer protection and veterinary service within the Amt für öffentliche Ordnung. The city says it covers more than 11,000 registered food businesses and also deals with consumer goods such as toys. Snacks and squishies therefore share one point of contact. You can register your business online through the city.

The Hot Chip Challenge showed how the state responds: on 8 November 2023 the ministry reported that samples had been judged harmful to health and called for a precautionary sales stop. That concerned one product, which is not in our range. Even so, keeping your records to hand is worthwhile. Our article on documents from a wholesaler explains what you can request.

How do goods reach Stuttgart?

By shipment only, since collection is possible solely in Mettmann. Through your dealer account, approved in most cases within 1–2 working days on proof of business, you order full cartons with no minimum order value. Large quantities go by freight.

Behind the range is direct cooperation with the manufacturers, with Barcel for Takis. We do not only buy squishies in, either: part of the range is produced to our own order.
