Which shop types in Slovenia suit us?

Small spaces with plenty of passing trade fit best: the trafika with press and tobacco, the kiosk, the small village trgovina and shops at a bencinski servis. Toy and gift shops, vending operators and online sellers are part of our audience too.

If you plan ahead, mark Miklavž on 6 December, the first of several gift dates in Advent. Small squishies and fruit gums work as little presents. On the coast around Koper and Piran, summer trade with holidaymakers comes on top.

Which products pay off in a small space?

We are clear about where the goods come from: we work directly with manufacturers, in the case of Takis with Barcel. We also have some of our squishy range produced ourselves. Halal certificates are available for Samyang Buldak, and CE declarations of conformity and test reports for toys on request.

What does a Slovenian VAT number look like?

The ID za DDV consists of SI plus 8 digits. Almost every business has a tax number (davčna številka), but the SI form only exists once it is identified for VAT. Enter the number with SI in the registration form, and VIES checks it straight away.

Proof of business is an extract (izpisek) from the Poslovni register Slovenije, kept by the agency AJPES. Sole proprietors (s.p.) have been listed there since 2005. AJPES offers the extract as a PDF that you can upload directly. We normally review it within 1–2 working days.

How do VAT and shipping work?

With a valid ID za DDV we invoice without German VAT, and you declare the tax in Slovenia (reverse charge). An account is also possible without a valid number, but with 19% German VAT. Our guide to buying with a VAT ID walks through the steps, and your tax adviser handles the bookkeeping.

We ship by parcel or pallet, and the smallest order is one full carton. Retailers who travel via Austria anyway or hire a carrier can collect from our Mettmann warehouse. If you also sell in Croatia, the rules there are under wholesale for Croatia.

What applies to labels, deposits and trend drinks?

According to the US commercial guide for Slovenia (March 2026), product information must be in Slovene before goods reach the customer. The authority UVHVVR supervises food labelling. We do not promise Slovene labels on every item; settle this before you sell and use our documents if you have questions.

Slovenia has no single-use deposit so far. According to STA on 27 August 2026, the government expects a deposit scheme for drinks packaging to be needed no earlier than 2031 and opposes the bill from the Levica party. For your customers this means that cans with the DPG logo earn no deposit in the country. Whether that deposit stays on your invoice or comes off depends on the product and is settled per order.

Take care with high-caffeine imported cans: Austria's VKI reported in April 2024 that Prime Energy was banned in Slovenia. Our article on permitted trend drinks puts this in context.
