Which shops in Slovakia do we serve?

In many towns the small grocery, the potraviny, is the local shop. Cities such as Bratislava and Košice add the večierka with its long hours, the trafika or novinový stánok (news stand) and shops at a čerpacia stanica. Our range also suits hračkárstvo toy shops, vending operators and online sellers.

What do we offer for the Slovak market?

On the snack side there are Takis and Samyang Buldak, including Quattro Cheese and Rosé. LOTTE Milkis in flavours like strawberry and banana suits a večierka fridge. Toppie fruit gums round out the sweets, and squishies fill the till area.

We work directly with manufacturers, for Takis with the manufacturer Barcel. For squishies, we have part of the range produced ourselves. That does not apply to every item, but it shapes how we build this category.

IČO, DIČ or IČ DPH: which number goes in the form?

Slovak companies can hold up to three numbers. The IČO is the eight-digit organisation number and the DIČ the ten-digit tax number. What counts for an invoice without German VAT is the IČ DPH: SK followed by 10 digits. It only exists once you are registered for VAT. Enter it in the registration form, and VIES checks it automatically.

As proof of business, companies upload a výpis z obchodného registra. According to the EU e-Justice Portal, registry courts issue electronic extracts free of charge. Sole traders (živnostníci) use the výpis zo živnostenského registra. Expect 1–2 working days until approval.

How are invoicing and delivery handled?

With a valid IČ DPH we charge no German VAT, and you declare the acquisition in Slovakia. Without the number you can still register, but you pay 19% German VAT. Our guide to buying with a VAT ID explains how this fits together; ask your tax adviser about your books.

Small quantities go by parcel, larger ones by pallet. You can also collect from Mettmann yourself. We send toy documents such as CE declarations of conformity and test reports on request. If you also sell in Czechia, the rules next door are on our Czech wholesale page.

What applies to the deposit scheme and to language on the goods?

Slovakia has had a deposit scheme for single-use drinks since 1 January 2022. According to the scheme operator, the deposit is 15 cents for plastic bottles and metal cans from 0.1 to 3 litres, with exceptions such as milk and syrups. Participating packaging carries the Z symbol. TOMRA states that containers without a Z are not refunded. Shops of 300 m² or more must take containers back, and smaller ones may join voluntarily.

A can with the German DPG logo has no Z and earns no deposit in Slovakia. Anyone putting drinks on the Slovak market for the first time concludes a contract with the Správca zálohového systému, the operator says. So work out what applies to your drinks before ordering. Under Slovakia's consumer protection act, written consumer information must be in the state language, and other languages may be added. Warnings on toys must be in Slovak. So look at each pack before you sell it. Whether an age limit for energy drinks applies in Slovakia is not clear to us; please check the current position.
