Wholesale squishies in Europe: how to stock the trend without huge minimums
Last updated: 02 November 2026
Small shops in Europe can stock squishies without factory-sized minimums by buying from an EU-based wholesaler that sells by the carton, usually a counter display of 12 pieces. MDH Distribution, a trade-only wholesaler in Mettmann, Germany, has no minimum order value; businesses from other EU countries register with a valid VAT ID, and we deliver to every EU country, with route, cost and transit time agreed beforehand.
Where do retailers buy squishies wholesale in Europe?
There are three common routes. The first is buying directly from a factory, usually in Asia. Unit prices can be low, but minimum order quantities often run into thousands of pieces per design, and lead times are long. Whoever brings toys from outside the EU onto the EU market is legally the importer under the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. The importer has to make sure the manufacturer carried out the conformity assessment and must put its own name and contact address on the toy, its packaging or an accompanying document.
The second route is a B2B marketplace. These platforms mostly list brands with their own minimums and shipping rules; our comparison of B2B wholesale marketplaces in Europe explains the differences.
The third route is a wholesaler inside the EU that keeps stock and sells by the case. A shop that buys this way is a distributor in legal terms, not an importer. That reduces the paperwork, but it does not remove all duties: distributors still have to check certain markings before they sell, as explained further below.
MOQ, minimum order value, packing unit: what is the difference?
MOQ (minimum order quantity) is the smallest number of pieces a supplier accepts per item. Minimum order value is the smallest total amount per order. The packing unit is the carton or display an item is sold in. A supplier can have no minimum order value and still sell in packing units.
At MDH, most squishies come in a display of 12, for example the Butter Squishy 113 g, the Squishy Toy Medium and the crunchy designs. Exceptions are listed with each item: the Mini Dumpling Squishy multicolour comes in units of 24, the Crispy Butter Halloween in tens, and the Dumpling Advent Calendar and the Squishy Funbox are sold individually.
In practice, this means a first order can consist of four or five different displays rather than one design in bulk. You learn what sells in your shop before you commit more money.
Which squishy types belong in a first order?
Most retailers start with the three styles that customers name most often. Butter squishies look like a block of butter; we stock 113 g and 400 g versions plus colour and soap variants. Crunchy or crispy squishies promise a crackling feel when squeezed and come as food shapes, characters and balls. Dumpling squishies include the Squishy Dumpling Glitter 8.5 cm, an LED version and the multicoloured mini dumplings.
A balanced first order could be one butter display, two crunchy designs that look clearly different, one dumpling item and one non-squishy fidget item such as the Spinner Ball. That gives a varied counter without overbuying any single design. Why these styles are popular is covered in our guide to the 2026 squishy trend.
Why do counter displays matter for small shops?
For a kiosk, convenience store or small toy shop, the display box is the shelf. It takes up little space next to the till, keeps the items upright and shows the design at a glance. Restocking means swapping a box rather than arranging single pieces.
Keep one unpacked tester per design if the packaging allows it, and replace it when it looks worn. Place the display where small children cannot reach it unsupervised, and make sure the age warning on the packaging stays visible. Several shops find that two or three displays side by side sell better than one large block of the same item, because customers compare.
When should you order for each season?
Squishies sell all year, but demand peaks around gift seasons. For Christmas, stock should be on the shelf from early November. An advent calendar only sells before 1 December, which is why the Dumpling Advent Calendar (German or English packaging) needs to be ordered in October or early November. Seasonal designs are listed on our Christmas squishies page.
Other good moments are Easter, the end of the school year and back-to-school, when children spend pocket money and parents look for small rewards. Halloween designs should arrive by early October. New designs also drive repeat visits: MDH added more than 20 new squishy items between 21 and 27 October 2026 alone.
Which documents should you request from any squishy supplier?
Whoever you buy from, ask before you list an item, especially if you sell in another country. Under Article 7 of Directive 2009/48/EC, a distributor must act with due care and check before selling that the toy carries the CE marking, that the required documents, instructions and safety information are included in a language consumers in the country of sale easily understand, and that the manufacturer and, where relevant, the importer are named with a contact address.
A practical checklist: CE marking on the toy or packaging; manufacturer name and address; importer name and address for products made outside the EU; a type, batch or model number; age and warning notices; and safety information in your local language. You can also ask whether an EU declaration of conformity or a test report against the EN 71 standards is available for the specific item.
The Dutch authority NVWA put it plainly in 2026: businesses that make, import (including dropshipping) or sell toys are responsible for their safety. Before listing a new design, it also takes a minute to search the EU Safety Gate portal for similar products. Looking ahead, the European Commission announced on 23 December 2025 that under the new Toy Safety Regulation every toy will need a digital product passport, with the rules applying from 1 August 2030.
Treat the answers as part of your own due diligence. Our guide on EU toy safety rules for squishies explains the background, including the 2026 dumpling debate.
How does ordering from MDH work for shops outside Germany?
Registration takes about three minutes at /b2b/register: upload proof of business (a trade registration or the register extract from your country) and enter your VAT ID, which is checked automatically in the EU VIES system. Approval usually takes one to two working days; after that you see all prices and order in full packing units with no minimum order value.
With a valid VAT ID from another EU country, invoices are issued without German VAT; the details are in our guide to buying with an EU VAT ID. Within Germany, orders usually ship within 24 to 48 hours. We also deliver to other EU countries and settle shipping method, cost and transit time with you by email or WhatsApp; you can always collect from the warehouse in Mettmann. We communicate in German and English.
One important note: our squishies are intended for the EU market and come from official distribution channels, and we provide CE declarations of conformity and test reports on request. Before selling in your country, still check yourself which language your national rules require for warnings and safety information on toys.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy squishies wholesale in Europe without a large MOQ?
At MDH Distribution, a trade-only wholesaler in Mettmann, Germany. There is no minimum order value; most squishies are sold in displays of 12. EU businesses register with a valid VAT ID and receive the goods by parcel or freight.
How many squishies are in one wholesale display?
At MDH usually 12. Exceptions such as the Mini Dumpling Squishy (24), Crispy Butter Halloween (10) and the Dumpling Advent Calendar (single unit) are shown with each item.
Do I become an importer if I buy squishies from a German wholesaler?
Not normally. Under Directive 2009/48/EC, the importer is the EU business that brings a toy from outside the EU onto the market. A shop buying from an EU wholesaler is a distributor, which still has its own checking duties.
What documents should I ask a squishy supplier for?
Check CE marking, manufacturer and importer addresses, a batch or model number, age warnings and safety information in your language. You can also ask whether a declaration of conformity or EN 71 test report is available for the item. At MDH, both are available for our toys on request.
Can I mix different squishy designs in one order?
Yes. Each design is ordered in its own packing unit, but you can combine as many designs as you like, along with snacks and drinks, in one order.
When should I order squishies for Christmas?
Ideally by early November. Advent calendars must be in store before 1 December, so order them in October or at the very start of November.
Can a sole trader or small shop buy squishies wholesale?
Yes, as long as the business is registered. Wholesale accounts are for businesses only. You upload a trade registration or register extract, and businesses from other EU countries also need a valid VAT ID.
