Halal snacks and noodles in wholesale: what certificates retailers should ask for
Last updated: 02 November 2026
Ask for a halal certificate that names the exact product, the manufacturer or production site and a validity date, issued by a certification body your customers trust, and match it to the pack you actually buy. A halal logo on one variety of a brand tells you nothing about the others. As of November 2026, MDH Distribution holds halal certificates for Samyang Buldak and sends them on request; for other brands we obtain documents from the manufacturer or distributor when you ask. This guide is general information, not religious or legal advice.
Why do customers ask retailers whether a snack is halal?
Halal status is a buying criterion for a large group of shoppers in Europe. According to the Pew Research Center (November 2017), about 25.8 million Muslims lived in the 28 EU countries plus Norway and Switzerland in mid-2016, around 4.9 % of the population. Local shares differ widely between countries, cities and neighbourhoods, so your own customers are the best guide.
The questions reach the shop floor directly. Search suggestions such as „is takis halal“, „are buldak noodles halal“ or „is milkis halal“ show that shoppers look for the answer online, and many simply ask the person at the till. A kiosk or convenience store that can answer with a document instead of a guess earns trust, and avoids the opposite risk of calling something halal that is not.
What does a halal certificate actually prove?
A halal certificate is a statement by a certification body that a product, or the site where it is made, meets that body's halal standard. Depending on the standard, the audit covers ingredients and their origin, flavourings and processing aids, alcohol used as a carrier, cleaning and the separation from non-halal production.
EU food law contains no general definition of halal for packaged food. The standards come from the certification bodies themselves, and importing countries decide which certifiers they accept. Malaysia's halal authority JAKIM, for example, had recognised 88 foreign certification bodies in 49 countries as of May 2024, according to the Malaysian religious affairs minister quoted by The Star (5 October 2024). Recognition lists like this show that certifiers are not automatically interchangeable.
What EU law does regulate is honesty. Under Article 7 of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, food information must not mislead about the nature, composition or method of production of a food, and this also applies to advertising and to the way products are presented and displayed. A halal logo on a pack, a halal sign on your shelf or a halal claim in your web shop therefore has to be true.
How do you check a halal certificate before you rely on it?
Work through the same points every time a supplier sends you a certificate:
Issuer: Is the certification body named with its address, and can you find it independently? If your customers follow a particular authority, check whether that authority accepts this certifier.
Holder and site: Does the company or factory on the certificate match the manufacturer named on the pack? A certificate for a different plant may not cover the batch you bought.
Scope: Is your exact variety listed? Certificates often have an annex with product names, sometimes with pack sizes or article numbers. A certificate for an original flavour does not cover a cheese or carbonara variety unless that variety appears on the list.
Validity: Note the issue and expiry dates. Certificates are renewed periodically, so ask for the current version before the old one runs out.
Pack: Does the logo on the pack belong to the same certifier as the document? Many certifiers publish lists of certified products or confirm a certificate by email, which is worth doing once for every new brand.
Which Samyang Buldak noodles are halal?
Samyang has worked with halal certification for years. The Korea Herald (23 January 2018) quoted the company as saying it had been approved by Indonesia's MUI the previous September, and Asia Economy (13 December 2023) reported that Samyang obtained halal certification through the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF) for its entry into the Malaysian market.
That does not mean every Buldak pack on every shelf is certified. Certification is granted per product and per production site, and the same flavour can be made in different versions for different markets. Lists of „halal Buldak flavours“ circulating online are mostly unofficial and go out of date, so we do not publish such a list here. The reliable check is the halal logo on the individual pack together with the product list on the matching certificate.
MDH currently stocks four Buldak items: Carbonara 130 g in Korean packaging, Creamy Carbonara 140 g in English packaging, Quattro Cheese 140 g and Rosé 140 g. Halal certificates for Samyang Buldak are available at MDH. Before you advertise an item as halal, ask us which certificate covers which of these articles, and keep that document. The full range is on our Buldak wholesale page.
What about Takis, Korean drinks and other imported snacks?
For brands without a certificate in hand, the honest answer to a customer is „we do not know yet“. That applies to Takis as much as to LOTTE Milkis, Cantabile Ade, fruit gums or licensed snacks. MDH does not describe these products as halal. If you need a statement, we ask the manufacturer or the official distributor on your behalf and pass on what they provide.
The ingredient list is a useful first look but not a substitute for certification. It shows obvious points, such as the type of gelatine in a fruit gum, but it does not reveal how flavourings were produced, which carriers were used or whether lines are shared. „Vegetarian“, „no pork“ and „halal“ are three different statements, and only the last one needs a certifier behind it.
Korean drinks and noodles are a growing category in European convenience stores. Our guide to Korean snacks and drinks in Europe explains which products customers ask for and how to place them.
How should you present halal products in your shop and online?
Mark an item as halal only when a valid certificate covers that exact item. A shelf strip with the word „halal“ above a mixed row of certified and uncertified products is exactly the kind of presentation Article 7 of the food information regulation is meant to prevent. Keep halal shelf tags close to the products they describe.
Brief your staff with one sentence per product: which variety is certified, by whom and until when. That answers most questions in seconds. For online listings, store the certificate in your product files and update the listing when a certificate expires or a variety changes packaging.
Do not copy a certifier's logo onto your own signs or images unless you have permission. Use the manufacturer's pack photo or your own picture of the pack, which shows the logo where it legitimately appears.
How does MDH handle halal documents for retailers?
Everything we stock is sourced through official channels and intended for sale in the EU. The Buldak halal certificates are on file, and we e-mail them on request. For every other brand we request certificates or statements from the manufacturer or distributor when you ask, and we tell you plainly if none exists. More on the paperwork you can request from us is in our guide to wholesale documents and certificates.
MDH sells to registered businesses only. Create a trade account with your business registration and, for EU companies, a valid VAT ID; approval usually takes 1–2 working days. We deliver to all EU countries, with shipping method, cost and timing agreed individually. If you need certificates for a particular market or a set quantity, tell us by email or WhatsApp before you order and we will find a solution.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy halal-certified Buldak noodles wholesale in Europe?
MDH Distribution, a B2B wholesaler with a warehouse in Mettmann, Germany, stocks Samyang Buldak and holds halal certificates for the brand, which we send on request. Check with us which certificate covers which variety. We deliver to all EU countries on individually agreed terms after you register as a business.
Are all Buldak noodles halal?
No general answer is possible. Certification applies to specific products and production sites, so check the halal logo on each pack and the product list on the matching certificate.
Are Takis halal?
We make no general statement on Takis. Ask the manufacturer or distributor for a current certificate; as a customer of MDH you can ask us to request the documents for you.
Who certifies Samyang's halal products?
Media reports name the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF) for Samyang's Malaysian market entry and Indonesia's MUI for an approval in 2017. The certifier for your batch is the one named on the certificate and logo.
How long is a halal certificate valid?
Each certificate states its own validity period. Note the expiry date and ask your supplier for the renewed version in good time.
Is a halal logo on the pack enough for my shop?
It is a good indicator. If you advertise products as halal, keep the matching certificate on file so you can show it to customers, platforms or authorities.
Is vegetarian food automatically halal?
No. Vegetarian products can still contain alcohol-based flavour carriers or come from shared production lines. Only a certificate confirms halal status.
