Which businesses in Cyprus do we work with?

The periptero (περίπτερο) is the classic kiosk, and a psilika (ψιλικά) shop sells sweets, drinks and small items. Add mini markets in residential areas, shops at a pratirio kafsimon (petrol station), and toy and gift shops. In resorts such as Ayia Napa and Paphos, shops sell to visitors from across Europe for many months of the year.

The seasons that matter are summer on the coast and the turn of the year: traditionally Saint Basil (Άγιος Βασίλης) brings gifts at New Year rather than on 24 December. If you plan squishies for that date, autumn is the time to order.

Which range suits Cyprus?

Takis and Wunder toothpicks in their display suit a periptero counter, and Cantabile Ade in flavours like Blueberry and Watermelon suits the chiller. Which register proof do you need, and which number counts?

The Cypriot VAT number (Αριθμός Εγγραφής ΦΠΑ) takes the form CY, 8 digits and one letter. Enter every character in the registration form, because VIES checks the complete number. The final letter is easy to forget.

A certificate from the Department of Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property (Τμήμα Εφόρου Εταιρειών), such as the Certificate of Registration, works as proof of business. The register also lists trade name owners. We usually look through your documents within 1–2 working days.

Where do we deliver, and how is it invoiced?

We deliver to the area in which the government of the Republic of Cyprus exercises effective control. In the north of the island, EU law is suspended under Protocol 10 to the 2003 Accession Treaty, as the Cypriot finance ministry explains. Please clear deliveries to the north of the island with us beforehand.

With a valid CY number we charge no German VAT, and you declare the acquisition in Cyprus. You can still register without a valid number, but with 19% German VAT. Read more under buying with a VAT ID, and ask your tax adviser about the bookkeeping.

What applies to Greek labels and deposits?

Food labels in Cyprus must be in Greek, as the US commercial guide (April 2026) and the Cyprus Consumers Association both state. We do not promise Greek details on every item. Compare this with your pack before you sell; whoever adds stickers is responsible for their content. Our article on labels on imported snacks sets out the basics.

According to Politis in April 2026, a deposit scheme for single-use drinks was not yet running: the legal framework had not been finalised and implementation was pending. Please ask about the latest position. Cans with the German DPG logo can only be returned in Germany, and for the German deposit we decide by order and product whether it is charged or taken out.
