From the periptero to the island shop: who buys from us

The periptero (περίπτερο) is the country's best-known shop format: a street kiosk with drinks, sweets and small items, often with very long hours and extremely little space. Then come psilika shops, mini markets, kavas, fuel station shops and toy shops.

On the islands and in resorts, many shops trade seasonally and want eye-catching items for tourists before summer. Online sellers are welcome too, provided a business is registered; private purchases are not possible.

What works in a Greek shop

In a periptero every centimetre counts. That favours items that are small and get noticed: Wunder toothpicks in a display, Takis bags on a hanging strip, or single squishies on the counter. Mini markets have more room for Samyang Buldak and Red Bull special editions. Our drinks wholesale page gives an overview of cans and bottles.

As for purchasing: we deal directly with the manufacturers, and for Takis that is Barcel. Part of the squishy range is made by producers working to our order. The assortment is aimed at the EU market.

In Greece, gifts traditionally come from Saint Basil at the turn of the year. So small squishies fit not only Advent but also the days up to New Year.

Sign-up with ΓΕΜΗ certificate, invoicing with EL number

Greece is an exception in EU tax practice: the VAT number reads EL plus 9 digits, matching your AFM (ΑΦΜ). With GR at the start, the VIES query fails. So enter EL at create a dealer account and confirm in the VIES portal beforehand that the number is active.

As proof, upload a certificate from the G.E.MI. (ΓΕΜΗ) commercial registry, which is issued electronically. Sole traders without an entry use the confirmation of their business start from the tax administration. We normally go through the documents in 1–2 working days.

If the EL number is valid, no German VAT is due, and you declare FPA on the acquisition in Greece. If it is not, you can still sign up, though with 19% German VAT. Your logistis knows the bookkeeping, and buying with a VAT ID shows the principle.

Greek labels and the planned deposit scheme

According to a US Department of Agriculture report (2020), Greece requires Greek-language text on food labels, while multi-language labels and stickers are accepted. The food authority EFET is the main inspection body. So check what is on the pack before you sell. If you apply stickers yourself, the EU food information regulation makes you responsible for their content.

A nationwide deposit system for plastic bottles and aluminium cans has been decided, but its launch was postponed. In February 2026, DNews reported plans for around 4,200 return machines and 9,700 collection points, kiosks among them, with 10 cents up to 0.5 litres and 15 cents above. We had found no confirmed start date as of November 2026. Ask about the current position before larger drinks orders. The German deposit does not apply in Greece. Delivery to Greece and collection

Greece is part of our delivery area. Larger quantities travel on a pallet by freight, smaller ones by parcel. There is no minimum spend, only full cartons.

If you combine goods on your own transport, you collect in Mettmann and then confirm arrival in Greece to us in writing. On request you receive CE declarations of conformity and test reports for toys, or the halal certificates for Buldak. We are glad to discuss unusual requests, so just write to us.
