Wholesale for Leipzig and Saxony: stock for Spätis, kiosks and small shops

For Spätis, kiosks and small shops in Leipzig, Dresden and across Saxony, MDH Distribution is an online wholesaler with no warehouse in the region. You order in the shop, and we ship from Mettmann by DHL parcel or freight carrier, typically in 24–48 hours. Saxony is among the stricter states on closing times, which matters especially for Spätis.

Why does 10 pm apply to Spätis in Saxony?

Saxony's shop opening act lets retail outlets open from 6 am to 10 pm, Monday to Saturday, and until 2 pm on 24 and 31 December when these are working days. It contains no special provision for Spätis. The subject has come up in Leipzig as well: an April 2026 contribution in the city's official gazette says the council debated late-night sales once again. The rule itself, however, is set by the state rather than the city.

So the name is misleading: a Späti in Connewitz or Dresden's Neustadt generally stays open no longer than any other shop, and only customers already inside at 10 pm may still be served. Trade therefore shifts towards the early evening. Raise individual questions with the public order office; this is not legal advice, as of November 2026.

What is allowed on Sundays in Saxony?

As a rule, shops stay shut. Section 7 makes an exception for those selling newspapers, flowers, baked goods or fresh dairy products exclusively or to a considerable extent: they may open for six hours in total between 7 am and 6 pm. This does not apply on Good Friday, Easter Monday, Whit Monday, Reformation Day or either Christmas Day.

If you stock magazines seriously, check whether your range reaches that threshold. A few titles on the counter will hardly be enough. On top of that come Sunday shopping days under section 8, from noon to 6 pm, which each municipality sets for itself.

On up to five working days a year, section 3 also permits shopping events that may run into the night, provided you notify the municipality at least four weeks ahead and it does not object within two weeks of receipt (section 3(4) excludes certain days, such as Maundy Thursday and New Year's Eve). That can be a reason to allow for an extra carton around a street festival or the start of term; the seasonal calendar lists more buying dates.

What applies to fuel stations, stations and the airport?

Fuel stations may open all day every day, but outside shop hours they may only supply vehicle needs and travel goods. Outlets in passenger railway stations may likewise sell travel goods all day. Dresden and Leipzig/Halle airports may sell everyday goods.

According to section 2, travel goods include food and treats in smaller quantities and low-value toys. For a station kiosk, small bags and simple counter items can therefore fit, whereas heavy multi-packs for customers are less likely to.

Who is responsible for food in Saxony?

In Leipzig it is the city's veterinary and food inspection office. In Dresden, anyone running a food business registers with the city, which describes the procedure online. Outside the big cities, ask your rural district before you start, as the details must be on file before trading begins.

What does buying from MDH look like?

An early evening peak calls for reliably full shelves at 5 pm rather than at midnight. Takis Blue Heat, Samyang Buldak Rosé (see Buldak wholesale), LOTTE Milkis Melon and Red Bull Glacier Ice Raspberry are good candidates. You will find similar ideas under Späti wholesale. At the counter, the Spinner Ball and Crispy Butter gelb round things off.

We cooperate directly with the manufacturers, naming Barcel for Takis. Part of our squishy range is produced specifically for us. To order, set up a dealer account with proof of business; the check usually takes 1–2 working days. There is no pickup in Saxony, and we have no minimum order values.
