Wholesale for Frankfurt and Rhine-Main: stock for Wasserhäuschen, kiosks and shops
MDH Distribution supplies Wasserhäuschen, kiosks and shops across the Rhine-Main region from its Mettmann warehouse, by DHL parcel or freight carrier and mostly within 24–48 hours. We have no local site. One regional point matters: Frankfurt, Offenbach and Wiesbaden are in Hesse, Mainz is in Rhineland-Palatinate, and different shop rules apply there.
What makes the Wasserhäuschen special as a retail format?
The Wasserhäuschen (literally little water house) is Frankfurt's version of the drinks kiosk. According to Frankfurt Tourismus it dates from the 19th century, when the city licensed kiosks to sell mineral water. Around 800 existed by the 1970s, and about 200 remain. They have long since moved on to snacks and drinks and act as neighbourhood meeting points.
A Wasserhäuschen has little storage space, so carton size matters more than in a supermarket. Check the pack size in the shop before ordering and work out how many cartons you can fit. Being able to buy with no minimum order value helps you order only what will fit.
What may kiosks in Hesse sell on Sundays?
Hesse is comparatively generous to kiosks. Working days run from midnight to midnight. Outlets are generally shut on Sundays, but according to IHK Frankfurt kiosks may open for six hours for newspapers, magazines, tobacco, and food and treats in smaller quantities. Sunday hours must be clearly displayed.
That does not turn every shop into a kiosk. In 2020 the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court (2 Ss-OWi 867/20) upheld a fine against a food retailer who had merely partitioned off the other goods with a provisional divider. The term follows building regulations. Fuel stations, railway stations and Frankfurt Airport have rules of their own, and fully automated stores up to 120 m² selling everyday goods may open throughout Sundays.
Trading ends at 8 pm on Maundy Thursday and at 2 pm on 24 and 31 December when these are working days. Raise questions about your location with the public order office; this text reflects the position in November 2026 and is not legal advice.
Why do Mainz and Frankfurt have different hours?
Because the Rhine is a state border here. The version of Rhineland-Palatinate's shop opening act available to us sets 6 am to 10 pm on working days; we did not find a kiosk rule like the one in Hesse in it. In September 2025 the state government launched an amendment for unstaffed micro-outlets. We are not aware of the draft (Drs. 18/13562) having been adopted.
If you run sites on both banks of the Rhine, check hours and staffing separately, even when only a bridge lies between them.
Which authority covers the Rhine-Main area?
Food inspection sits with the rural districts and independent cities, not with one body for the whole region. In Frankfurt the state list names the public order office and its veterinary department. If you sell in Offenbach, Darmstadt or the Main-Taunus district, ask the city or district concerned.
What suits the range, and how does it reach you?
Small, eye-catching and quick to sell: Takis Queso Volcano, Samyang Buldak Carbonara, Toppie Jelly Fruits and Wunder Zahnstocher Icebonbon by the till, plus cold drinks such as Cantabile Watermelon Ade. Much of this is covered on kiosk wholesale, and the flavours are explained on Takis wholesale.
We source our brands by working directly with the manufacturers, Takis from Barcel. Mini formats such as the Mini Dumpling Squishy fit any counter. More generally, part of our squishy range is manufactured for us. To get started you need a dealer account with proof of business, generally approved after 1–2 working days.
